BAPW responds to Pfizer's counterfeits claim regarding new distribution arrangements
Martin Sawer, Executive Director, BAPW said:
“Pfizer are wrong to link counterfeit medicines to their distribution by pharmaceutical wholesalers.”
“It is a slur on wholesalers who work closely with suppliers especially when new products need to get to market fast - we have one of the best records in the EU on this - or when product recalls are necessary because of manufacturer error.”
“It is disappointing to hear the same old cliches trotted out”
“As representatives of full-line pharmaceutical wholesalers in the UK, patient safety is of paramount importance to our members. Adhering to a Gold Standard of MHRA-approved good distribution practice, our members distribute the entire range of licensed medicines to pharmacies, hospitals and doctors to exact orders, on a daily basis, safety and effectively.”
“The MHRA has no evidence that counterfeit medicines have entered the UK due to parallel importing. Counterfeit medicines enter the UK due to unscrupulous criminals. For anyone to suggest otherwise is disingenuous.”
